Hydrochloric acid is commonly used to prepare masonry surfaces prior to the application of sealants or paints. Hydrochloric acid etches the surface opening the pores of the substrate to accept subsequent coatings. It also ideal for cleaning exposed aggregate after it has been washed to help clean residual slurry off the surface creating a better exposure.
